What initially began in 2020 as a challenge to memorize Mary Oliver’s epic poem “The Leaf and the Cloud” has now flowered into The Risible Rise and Fall, a performance offering attuned to the web of connectivity as well as life’s ephemeral nature. The Risible Rise and Fall is a voyage of endurance for the audience and performers, alike. You are invited to become less yourself and more a part of everything as poetry, physical theatre, Jungian archetypes, and dance forms undulate and expand our assiduous nature.
Douglas Allen is a curious heart that seeks to enliven this body, on loan from the earth, through the receiving and offering of literal and figurative nutrition He is a conduit for expression in the realms of embodied movement, acting, poetry and collage. Doug received his B.A. in Theatre from Michigan State University and collaborated in the creation of performances upon moving to NYC in 1998, and in Portland since 2012. Productions were created within the scope of various mediums, such as modern dance (Tracy Broyles, John Ollom) and Japanese butoh (Mizu Dieserto, Meshi Chavez, Michael Freeman and Edoheart). He is also a ten year student and primary assistant to the international collective named Body Ritual Movement in Tlalpujahua, Mexico (Diego Piñón), a company member and teacher with The American Mime Theatre (Paul Curtis, Janet Carafa), as well as an stage actor (Ken Nintzel, Helen Stratford, James Scruggs), an indie film performer (Antero Alli) and a collage artist (collaborative work with Jerry Pellowski as well as solo work).
