In the wake of San Francisco/Berlin-based artist Jess Curtis‘ passing, PWNW presents Beyond Gravity, four new live dance performance works developed by fiscally-sponsored artists Jess mentored over the last few years of his life via his organization Jess Curtis/Gravity. Beyond Gravity features two programs of San Francisco artists, as well as Portland-based Allie Hankins with her SF-based collaborator Rachael Dichter. The works all navigate the vulnerability of change and the beautiful fragility of the interconnected webs we weave with lovers, family, and intimate friends.
RAGE ROOM, by Aiano Nakagawa in collaboration with ainsley tharp
Rage Room is a performance, a lecture, a meditation, a catharsis, a spell on femme rage.
DDF, by Gabriele Christian in collaboration with Styles Alexander
A duet between choice cuts in a refuge out of real time. No matter how you look at us, we’re cooked.
Chariot, by Allie Hankins & Rachael Dichter
Horses, a storm, a haunting. Allie and Rachael play with form, rigor and slippage to look at methods of control and ways of breaking (through?).
The sky is blue (an anchoring), by Abby Crain in collaboration with Lou Fitzsimmons & Kevin Lo
An anchor drop enacts connection via a cord. A cord could be flexible, expandable, or retractable. This is a connection that is neither a steeling, or a making rigid, nor a stealing. One is a guest in a safe harbor. This is a connection via the sky, the clouds, the intangible and the atmospheric. Via a chord. This celebrates thunderstorms but also is afraid of them. This begins in the way the air smells after a storm. Sometimes we practice unison.
