The application for the 2027 Alembic Parent Residency is NOW OPEN!
Intent to apply is requested by November 16, 2026
The full application is due December 7, 2027.
The residency runs from February through October, 2027
Call is open for local parent artists (residing within the Portland metro area) with a child or children under 18, whose work engages a strong movement, body or dance-based component. The resident will receive up to 90 hours of studio time and a $1,200 stipend. This is a research-exploration based residency and is not expected to result in a finished work, though artists have the opportunity for an informal sharing.
The Alembic Parent Artist Residency was created in direct response to an equity gap in the arts: parent artists are often unable to access residencies and other professional development opportunities because these programs may require travel, extended time away from home, or additional childcare costs that artists cannot afford. These structures can disproportionately limit opportunities for artists with caregiving responsibilities.
Developed in collaboration with local parent artist and Alembic Residency Alum, claire barrera, we aimed to create a residency that directly responds to these limitations. By providing 90 hours of free studio space alongside a $1,200 stipend for childcare or other expenses, PWNW creates meaningful time and resources for artistic development while allowing local parent artists to remain rooted in their families and communities.
