Over the course of three years, writer/editor Emmaly Wiederholt and photographer Gregory Bartning teamed up to interview and photograph dancers over 50. The finished book, “Beauty is Experience: Dancing 50 and Beyond,” includes over 50 interviews with dancers ranging in age from 50 to 95, and spanning from Los Angeles up through San Francisco, Eugene, Portland and Seattle. The result is a compilation of voices celebrating dance at any age.
Dancers interviewed from Portland include Linda Austin, Susan Banyas, Mike Barber, Gregg Bielemeier, Nancy Davis & Jim Lane, Tracey Durbin, Patrick Gracewood, Jamey Hampton, Laurel & Gene Leverton, Carla Mann, Tere Mathern, Jim McGinn, Josie Moseley, Jayanthi Raman, Eric Skinner, Melissa St. Clair and Carolyn Stuart, as well as Alito Alessi and Emery Blackwell in Eugene.
