Marissa Rae Niederhauser (Berlin) performs new work ‘M/f duet’ with Aaron Swartzman (Seattle) and solo ‘Teething’ both which explore the complexities and boundaries of relationships.

M/f Duet is a romantic work with a particular focus on the power dynamic and disparities often embedded in Male/female romantic relationships. Despite our cultural evolution and our best intentions we tend to re-enact outdated imbalanced power dynamics in our relationships.

Teething is mysterious and tense solo concerning the painful process of ‘cutting teeth’. The audience gets a voyeuristic peek into a private experience- a girl at times insectile, awkward, adolescent, some thing thwarted, a dystopian strip tease. Teething looks back on it’s youthful, romantic hopes with disgust. Teething moves past this weak stupidity to become something powerful, enraged, a viciousness on the verge of being released. From something soft and bleeding and pink (gums) comes something hard, strong and capable of inflicting harm (teeth).
